Kansa Abhyanga Wand

Art of Vedas

The Kansa Abhyanga Wand is a traditional bronze tool used in Ayurvedic body therapy. The wand form, with a Kansa head fitted to a wooden handle, suits extended Abhyanga sessions across larger areas of the body without strain on the therapist's hand.

About Kansa
Traditional alloy of copper and tin used in classical Ayurvedic therapy. Its contact with oil and skin is described in Kerala and pan-Indian traditions as balancing across all three Doshas, with particular use in drawing excess Pitta downward and supporting steadiness of the nervous system.

Use
Apply warm medicated oil suited to the patient's constitution. Move the Kansa head in long strokes along the limbs and circular strokes over joints and Marma regions for 15 to 20 minutes per area. The metal will darken on contact with oil and skin, which is expected and traditionally regarded as therapeutic.

Care
Wipe clean with a soft cloth after use. Periodic polishing with lemon and salt restores the bronze surface. Avoid prolonged water contact.

Material
Kansa (bronze alloy of copper and tin) head, hardwood handle.
